With the UTC Warrington application deadline fast approaching, Principal, Mr Barber is keen to remind prospective students from across Warrington and the surrounding areas about the fantastic courses and opportunities the college has on offer.
Current Year 9 students can apply to join the college from Year 10 onwards to study their core GCSEs alongside a great selection of Engineering focused qualifications, including; GCSEs in Computer Science, Electronics, Product Design and Resistant Materials, plus specialist technical qualifications in Principles in Engineering, Engineering Manufacture, Engineering Design and Systems & Control in Engineering.
Meanwhile, current Year 11 students considering their options for sixth form study can opt to follow an even wider array of Engineering subjects alongside key A Level qualifications in Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, Design Technology and English. The technical qualifications on offer to sixth form students cover subjects such as Mechatronics, Design Engineering, Power Network Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering and Manufacture Engineering.
Principal & Chief Executive, Mr Barber said “Having now personally met with well over 100 students for one-to-one meetings, I have been most impressed by the calibre of the students applying and I can really see the character of the college taking shape. The enthusiasm and desire to follow a career in Engineering coming across from students applying to join us in September is a pleasure to see. I am looking forward to the day we all come together on day one in September.”
The UTC, which is currently under construction on Dallam Lane, opposite Central train station and Warrington Bus Interchange is a Government funded Academy created specifically to help address the skills gap within Engineering across Warrington and the UK. The £10 million pound, six-storey building will house £1 million pounds of specialist engineering equipment, plus £500,000 of technology ensuring that students are learning on industry relevant software and equipment alongside working with employees from key employer partners such as: Sellafield Ltd, Amec Foster Wheeler, Atkins, Fujitsu, Unilever, Network Rail and university sponsor Manchester Metropolitan University.
