Strengthening our Year 11’s employability skills

Our year 10 and 11 students spent an interesting day taking part in workshops as part of our Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) programme.  With Year 11s approaching their GCSEs, and Year 10’s not far behind them, the themed workshops were designed to help students consider the next steps after exams and help strengthen their employability skills.

UTC Sixth Form students ‘fire it up’ with local employer   Sixth Form students were given the opportunity to explore local fire safety testing company, Element (also known as WarringtonFire) and discover more about the opportunities within this fascinating area of science and engineering.

Designing vehicles of the future

After spending years confined to the pages of science-fiction, driverless cars are now a reality and the world needs a new wave of engineers and programmers to design, build and programme the next generation of autonomous vehicles. Year 10 students were challenged by STEM organisation, the Smallpiece Trust to build and program their own autonomous vehicles which could safely navigate their way around a cityscape.

How many nails can you balance on a nailhead?

That was the question posed to a number of our Sixth Form students who had applied for work experience with Stanley Engineered Fastenings. Working together with former student now HR Apprentice, Lauryn Baker, we arranged for eight students to attend an interview day based at UTC. To secure a work experience placement, students had to participate in an aptitude test, a team task and a short interview with Lauryn.

Skiing into Christmas with style

Venturing across Europe, a group of 21 students travelled to the Aosta Valley in Italy for a week of skiing and snowboarding before the Christmas holidays.
