UTC Warrington is an inspiring and professional learning environment that gives young people the technical skills, expert understanding and personal aptitude and qualities they need for successful careers.
UTC Warrington is designed to reflect a business environment. This is embedded throughout all aspects of the college from the curriculum and 9.00am – 4.30pm working day through to technical projects and enrichment activities.
Students can track the development of their softer skills through the 5 elements of the LORIC personal development framework; Leadership, Organisation, Communication, Initiative and Resilience. The LORIC framework is embedded throughout all aspects of college life to support our students in developing essential personal attributes for employability and life.
When students demonstrate exceptional examples of one or more of the LORIC skills they will be rewarded with LORIC achievement points. The points accrued are totalled up at the end of each term and students who have been most successful in accumulating tokens in each aspect of the framework are recognised and rewarded for their efforts.
The curriculum reflects the need to consider progress in core subjects such as English and Maths, whilst developing specialist knowledge and understanding in technical options. Learning is supported and contextualised by our employer partners. Students have access to a wide range of learning experiences, working with teachers, fellow students and professionals. They have opportunities to apply their learning disciplines to project based challenges that develop their employability skills.
Excellence and Kindness
At the heart of our culture are the values of excellence and kindness. We strive for our students to be excellent in what they do and kind to each other within the UTC community and beyond. It takes seven seconds to form a first opinion; we want our students stand out from the crowd with a positive and cemented impression.
We celebrate the work of our students regularly and give praise to those who go above and beyond in our environment. We are proud of our relationships with parents & carers and we firmly believe that a strong relationship between the UTC, students and families is fundamental to driving our success. Therefore, if students require support or guidance, our staff team are more than happy to identify strategies and plans to ensure they reach their full potential.
To achieve good engagement, positive perspectives and subsequent success, we reinforce the values of professional conduct through clear routines and consistent boundaries. Our approach to behaviour reflects the world of work, with verbal and written warnings for behaviour that does not meet the appropriate standard. Ofsted inspectors found that the UTC’s behaviour policy works well and that ” pupils’ behaviour is good and that the college is calm and hard working.”
Personal & Professional Development
Enrichment is a valued part of the curriculum at UTC Warrington, as it is an opportunity for students to engage with each other and staff in an environment outside of the classroom. We have developed a varied enrichment programme designed to stretch and challenge our students and further develop their employability skills – Leadership, Organisation, Communication, Initiative and Resilience.
We pride ourselves in shaping our students to become the next industry leaders through offering a rich science and engineering curriculum and exposure to the local work force.
