How do I apply? | If you are in Year 9 you will join us at the start of Year 10, you can stay with us until the end of Year 11 or continue through Sixth Form too. If you are in Year 11 then you will join us in Year 12 an continue through Year 13 and leaving with a T-Level Qualification. When will I know if my application has been successful? | For Year 9s, you will find out if your application has been successful in March. Year 12s will find out in April. |
Would I get to choose my subject? | Yes, you would put your preferences on your application form, and then you would need to meet the entry requirement. For example, if you are joining us in Year 12 you will need to have achieved at least a grade 5 in maths, English and Science, to pursue a T-Level course |
Do the courses at the college come under vocational training? / What are T-Levels? | We have recently introduced T-Level qualifications, we no longer will offer A-Levels. T-Levels are equivalent to A-Levels and offer the same amount of UCAS points. UTCs develop young professionals by focusing on one or two specialisms alongside a broader curriculum. It is a different and exciting way to learn. Alongside local universities and employers, UTCs deliver specialist technical qualifications that provide real life learning experience. Employer projects, work experience and hands-on mentoring from industry professionals are how those experiences are achieved. Students also benefit from the very best facilities and industry-standard equipment used in the UTC’s specialist sector. This balance of technical, practical and academic learning creates a unique learning experience. The style of education will lead directly towards lucrative careers, apprenticeships and university. With at least 40% of students’ time spent on the UTC’s technical specialism, there is no better preparation for the world of work. UTCs are smaller than traditional secondary schools and are not academically selective. This allows students from all backgrounds to thrive in these exceptional environments. UTC Warrington has a strong emphasis on employer engagement, including real-life project-based learning, which engages students and develops their personal attributes. Because of their unique offer, UTCs provide a broad choice of pathways at 18 either to university, higher & degree apprenticeships, or directly into a career. Does this college offer other subjects for GCSE like maths, English and Science? | Absolutely – we offer the core subjects at GCSE in Years 10 – 11 |

Can I apply if I live in another borough? | Absolutely – We have plenty of learners come from outside Warrington. Although we have a strong community around Warrington Borough, we connect with students outside this area who are passionate enough to pursue one of our technical pathways! That is all we ask for!… dedication, drive and passion |
What is the timing of the college day? | Learners are to arrive in college no earlier than 8:30 am and no later than 8:45 am. We offer Breakfast club every single day between these times, and students will come and settle into the school day before their first lesson begins at 9:10 am. The school day finishes at 3:15 pm |
Does the college have SEND support | We have a SENCo who works alongside the Vice Principal for Personal Development. |
How does the school safeguard the students? | Like all schools/colleges we carry out extensive checks and DBS checks on all staff before they start. We work closely with partners including Social Care, and the police. We have a very secure safeguarding team who are excellent at helping students with struggles at home. Our top priority is keeping everyone safe, we dedicate ourselves to making sure students that leave our premises are going home to a happy and safe environment. |
Is there any career guidance within the college? | Yes, we have a careers guide lead who can discuss with the student in detail about future prospects. |
Is there a specific uniform at UTC Warrington? | COLLEGE UNIFORM – DRESSED FOR SUCCESS we recently decided to allow our students to dress less formally than other colleges enforce. We do have a uniform consisting of a Black or White polo shirt (optional choice of colour), A black hoodie, A black Zip-up hoodie. All we ask is the students wear black bottoms and black shoes. |
Do you offer degrees? | We don’t offer degrees however but we do we encourage our level 3 learners to go onto either Higher (level 4-5) or degree (level 6-7) apprenticeships or to apply to university to study for a degree in their chosen area. Support is in place for learners to go down either of these routes, some apply to both and make a final decision on results day. Learners have a lot of support to help with making these decisions and are prepared with everything they will need to make an informed choice. |
