Earlier this week Mayor of Warrington, Cllr Geoff Settle and the Mayoress, Jean Settle visited the UTC team to find out more about the exciting new college opening in their town in September.
During their visit Principal & Chief Executive, Mr Barber shared his vision for the college and the planned curriculum for the students joining later in the year.
Cllr Settle said “It was good to hear about the plans for the courses, especially as they are fundamental to the Warrington economy with specialisms in Engineering and mechanics.”
“I am pleased to hear that student recruitment is going well, with 172 applications received so far. Having visited UTC Bolton and seen how that has progressed in less than 12 months I have high expectations for UTC Warrington.”
Following their meeting with Mr Barber, the Mayor and Mayoress were treated to a tour of the construction site.
Once kitted out in their hard hats, safety glasses, hi-vis jackets and steel toe cap boots the group including Mr Barber, Steph Hutchinson, UTC Warrington Marketing & Employer Engagement Manager, the Mayor & Mayoress and Warren Hough, Project Manager from ISG headed on-site to see the action up close.
Project Manager, Warren explained how the construction project was on schedule and they were currently working on installing the steel structure and laying concrete on each floor.
During the tour the group were given access to the fourth floor of the building, from which the views were spectacular. Check out a video of the view here.

Talking of the Mayor and Mayoress’ visit Steph Hutchinson, Marketing & Employer Engagement Manager said “It was great to be able to share our vision for UTC Warrington with the Mayor and Mayoress. They were both really keen to hear all about the qualifications on offer and the opportunities that will be available to our students through our links with employers like Sellafield Ltd, Fujitsu and Atkins.”
