Students, staff and parents at UTC Warrington have been spreading some Christmas cheer across Warrington, with the support of their local employer partners.
Over the last four weeks, the Dallam Lane technical college has been encouraging donations of gifts such as pyjamas, soaps and toys for the Warrington branch of Women’s Aid – a charity that helps support those affected by domestic violence in the local area.
Earlier this month, the charity accepted the donations from students of the UTC. Joe Varey, Assistant Principal at the college, said that this year’s Christmas appeals had been more humbling than ever:
“We instil in our students to be excellent and kind in all walks of their life. This December we have had more fundraising and charity appeals than ever before. Our students, parents, staff and employer partners have not disappointed and their generosity has been overwhelming.”
“We have been delivering hampers to those less fortunate in and around Warrington this Christmas, running around the Warrington Wolves stadium for Cancer Research UK and donating gifts to Women’s Aid. It is humbling to see our students go above and beyond for others and their community.”
The UTC has also been collecting gifts and food to put together hampers for those who need it most this Christmas time in the local community. One of the college’s newest employer partners, engineering company AECOM, helped support the donations for the hampers alongside Warrington based Smart Storage Warehouse who also donating a large number of toys and gift items to the appeal.
Speaking of their involvement, Christopher Bradley, Document Controller at AECOM said that the fundraising is an important part of the company’s community ethos:
“UTC reached out to AECOM with a campaign to provide aid for those who are less fortunate this Christmas.”
“By providing this much needed support, it is a chance for AECOM to give back to next generation of students who are interested in our industry, give them a glimpse of what we do as a company and the wonderful things we can do for the community as well.”
“AECOM’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) work puts our values into action, leading to a positive impact on the lives of our employees, clients and stakeholders, and the communities in which we operate. We are proud to have partnered with UTC in this admirable project and look forward to fostering closer ties to the college in the future.”
UTC Warrington has raised over £250.00 for Cancer Research UK and has hundreds of gift items donated to the hamper appeal and to Women’s Aid.
